Angel joined the herd in July 2023.

Angel came to us with Abby and Waylon.  She and Waylon had been together for 20 years and are best friends.  Angel was the first donkey to join GRS' family.  She is very friendly and likes to just hang out with Abby and Waylon.  She loves feeding time and "talks" to us as soon as she sees the Ranger.  She wears a fly mask during summer because her nose gets sun-burned.  She has a slight limp on her front right and takes anti-inflammatory medicine to keep her comfortable.

Abby joined the herd in July 2023.

Abby is a retired barrel horse who came to us with Waylon and Angel.  She is black with a white blaze and has some Arabian in her that you can see from her delicate face.  She is very personable and loves people and cookies, following you around to check your pockets.  She stands politely for fly spray and the farrier but will not tolerate shots one bit!  She has aggressive allergies, so we are working on different options to help with her itchy skin - supplements, medicines, and baths (since she will not allow us to give allergy shots!).  She's a sweet and fun girl.

Waylon joined the herd in July 2023.

Waylon is a retired barrel horse who came to us with Angel and Abby.  He is a very handsome red roan who arrived underweight with arthritis, bad feet, terrible allergies, and bloody sores down his spine.  Within 3 weeks we had weight on him, his skin all healed up, his feet cleaned up, and started him on allergy shots.  He is a sweetheart who will let you love on him and just hang out.  He and Angel are big buddies and are content to hang out together and wait for the next meal.

Cowboy joined the herd in July 2023.

Cowboy's mama rescued him in 2016 and thought he'd stay with her forever.  She and her husband loved Cowboy so much, and Cowboy had several friends, both horses and donkeys, at their house.  Sadly, Cowboy's mama got sick.  She kept him at home as long as she could, but then asked if he could retire here.  We are so happy to have Cowboy here.  He enjoys being in with Twister and Flame.  He is a big-time foodie and loves meals and cookies.  He has a little arthritis and takes anti-inflammatory meds.  He also has a slit in his nose that we keep clean, and he generally has to wear a fly mask to keep the flies away from his old injury.  He loves people and is a fun horse.

Rexi is part draft and not as old as some of our other residents.  She joined our herd in March 2023.  

Rexi is a little shy and very sweet-natured.  She gets along well with the herd and likes people, as long as they don't "sneak up" on her.  She is a big horse, thanks to her draft heritage, and she loves treats!

Peso joined the herd in July 2021.

Peso was a ranch horse and then a personal riding horse.  He had some hock and hoof issues, and his owner retired him a number of years ago.  We got him injections and some Prevacox, and he's sound today.  He's very handsome and doesn't look his age at all!  He loves everyone who has cookies, and he loves hanging out with his best friend Raie.

Maggie joined the herd in March 2021.

Maggie is a registered quarter horse who had been working as a show horse in the Stars and Strides program in Weatherford.  She has a stifle injury that ended her show career, so S&S asked if she could retire at GRS.  We are working on her injury and treating her for ulcers.  She loves being in our herd of mares and is the boss of the crew!

Jessie Jayne is a free spirit who loves people! 

She is a beautiful Arabian mix and is technically a pony at 14 hands tall. She is fast and can be very animated when she plays. She is loyal and really only wants to hang out with the other “girls”. She is extremely smart and keeps a sharp eye out for anyone who might have treats! Jesse Jayne came to us from the amazing Pegasus Project horse rescue in Ben Wheeler, Texas.
